Wachesaw Plantation Real Estate – A Closer Look

Wachesaw Plantation is one of those Murrells Inlet communities where the setting is almost as important as the house.

The combination of the Waccamaw River, historic plantation landscape, enormous live oaks, private country club, golf course and proximity to the MarshWalk and beaches gives the neighborhood a character that is difficult to replicate elsewhere along the South Carolina coast.

For buyers considering Wachesaw Plantation homes for sale in Murrells Inlet SC, the most important question is not simply which house is available. It is which location within the community, property type and lifestyle best fit what you are looking for.

And if you are comparing Wachesaw Plantation with Wachesaw Plantation East, Litchfield Beach, Pawleys Island, Murrells Inlet golf communities or other coastal South Carolina neighborhoods, those differences are worth understanding before making a decision.

What Are the Homes Like in Wachesaw Plantation?

Wachesaw Plantation has a mixture of traditional single-family homes, larger custom residences and attached properties.

Many of the homes date from the late 1980s through the 2000s, meaning this is an established neighborhood with mature landscaping rather than a community dominated by new construction.

Architectural styles vary, but you will commonly find traditional Southern and Lowcountry influences, brick homes, large porches, mature trees and homes designed around the natural setting.

Some properties overlook the golf course, while others back up to wooded areas, ponds or other natural surroundings. The most desirable properties can command significantly higher prices, particularly larger custom homes with premium golf or river-related views.

Current listings demonstrate the range. In 2026, homes being marketed in Wachesaw Plantation range from properties in the $400,000s to larger luxury residences priced well above $1 million. Current market data also shows that the community can have relatively few homes available at any given time, which is typical of an established, built-out neighborhood.

For example, I recently reported a median listing price of approximately $553,500 for Wachesaw Plantation in August 2026, while recent individual listings have ranged considerably higher and lower depending on the property.

Wachesaw Plantation vs. Wachesaw Plantation East

This is one of the most important things to understand when searching for real estate in the area.

Wachesaw Plantation and Wachesaw Plantation East are separate communities.

They are close to one another and their names are often used interchangeably on real-estate websites, which can create confusion for buyers.

The original Wachesaw Plantation is the older, established gated community centered around Wachesaw Plantation Club and the Waccamaw River.

Wachesaw Plantation East is a separate, later development located nearby and associated with Wachesaw East Golf Club. Wachesaw East offers a different type of golf-community environment and generally has a broader range of housing, including condos and other lower-maintenance properties.

If you are searching specifically for Wachesaw Plantation real estate, make sure the property is actually located inside the original Wachesaw Plantation community rather than simply carrying "Wachesaw" somewhere in the listing description.

This distinction is particularly important when comparing HOA fees, amenities, club membership, property taxes, home values and resale potential.
