Mount Pleasant has been one of America’s most coveted communities to live for years and definitely one of if not the most coveted sub-urban communities of coastal S.C since the 90’s when the town began serious development. For generations, Mount Pleasant SC homes for sale consisted of only a few neighborhoods most of which were on the Coleman Corridor side like: Brookgreen Meadows, The Old Village, Bay View Acres, and Shemwood to name a few and Mt Pleasant was a small town you passed through on your way to Myrtle Beach. Since the 90’s Mount Pleasant has literally BOOMED, due to its proximity to two beachfront towns: Isle of Palms (Wild Dunes resort), and Sullivan’s Island; plus it is only 10 -30 mins drive from downtown. There are also 5 golf courses, 4 of which are country club communities which are more than any other area town in the tri-county area. 

GOLF COURSE COMMUNITIES

Since golf is such a huge draw in Charleston SC (not just Myrtle Beach) South Carolina but all over the coast, Mount Pleasant is no different, and our 4 country clubs are pretty impressive. There is one public course; Patriot Point links that is not in a neighborhood located on the Charleston harbor. So along with the two golf courses on Wild Dunes resort, that makes 7 golf courses all within a quick drive from or in Mt Pleasant. Luckily all the golf courses below are all public and none of the country clubs have required memberships. Snee Farm is the only one where a member has to bring/invite you to play.

 

WATERFRONT LIVING

Most people would love to live on one of the large deepwater creeks, or preferably the Wando River, and if you are so blessed to be able to afford it the Charleston Harbor like homes in The Old Village have. As nice as it sounds, homes on or close to the waterfront have a serious risk of floods. When Charleston gets one of its fairly regular hurricanes, storms, or heavy rains oftentimes times any homes near this water will have rising water, and that’s why so many homes are and built off the ground. We aren’t known as the “low-country” for nothing. There are several deep-water creeks you could choose to live on most of which are tributaries of the Wando River.   4. Get flood insurance estimates with the elevation certificate in hand before buying if you can
  5. Ask the neighbors how bad the neighborhood has flooded recently at last time
  6. Bugs – living near marsh means an increase in biting insects.
